The third day of Eurosatory 2024, focused on military technology, brought visitors live demonstrations of the French army and innovative military technologies.

The third day of Eurosatory 2024 was designated as "Army Day" and featured several important events and presentations. In the morning, we had the honour of welcoming General Pierre Schill, Chief of the French Army, who stressed the importance of this event for defence and security professionals from all over the world. General Schill confirmed that Eurosatory is a key platform for presenting the latest defence technologies and solutions.

Live demonstrations by the French Army

One of the main attractions of the day was the live demonstrations by the French Army. They started with a simulated scenario in which paratroopers jumped out of a plane and continued with further demonstrations of the various machines used by the French army. The unit showcased a wide range of technologies, including advanced combat vehicles, drones and anti-aircraft systems. Among the main highlights presented was the new VAB ARLAD armoured personnel carrier, designed to detect and neutralise drones. The audience had the opportunity to see how the army deals with various crisis situations, which was received with great enthusiasm.

Rheinmetall exhibition at Eurosatory 2024

At Eurosatory 2024, Rheinmetall presented the continued development of its Panther KF51 main battle tank, which was first introduced two years ago. This modern tank has seen a number of improvements and new capabilities. Hungary has signed a €288 million contract to develop a version of the Panther KF51 EVO, which will be equipped with the 120mm L55A1 smoothbore gun with an autoloader and the option to upgrade to a 130mm gun. This flexibility allows easy adaptation to future needs.

Rheinmetall is also proposing to upgrade the Leopard 2 tanks, replacing the original turret with a Panthera turret. This upgrade would increase the level of protection of the tanks through the use of passive, reactive and active protection. In addition, this process could be faster than producing entirely new tanks, making it more attractive to existing Leopard users. Another interesting Rheinmetall proposal is the development of a tankless turret for main battle tanks. This concept, designated the Concept Uncrewed Turret (CUT), would allow the crew to sit side-by-side in the tank's hull, with all visual input provided by day/night cameras. The turret uses the 130mm main gun and autoloader from the Panther KF51, with a total ammunition capacity of 25 rounds.

New tank from Hyundai Rotem

One of the other interesting things was the area of Hyundai Rotem, which presented its new Nex-Gen K3 tank. This machine is designed with modern warfare needs in mind and brings advanced technologies that enhance its effectiveness and capabilities in the field. Hyundai Rotem, a well-known manufacturer of railway vehicles and heavy machinery, has expanded its operations into the defence sector to provide highly mobile and efficient combat vehicles. The Nex-Gen K3 is equipped with advanced armour, advanced fire control systems and the ability to operate in a variety of climatic conditions.

Arquus at Eurosatory 2024

One of the key moments of Eurosatory 2024 was the introduction of the multi-purpose unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) Drailer from Arquus. Developed based on a commercial vehicle already in use by French special forces, the vehicle is designed for a wide range of missions including mine clearance, fire support and logistics operations. With a weight of 1,700 kg and a 76 kW electric motor powered by a 14 kWh Li-Ion battery, it reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h and offers a range of approximately 100 km, which can be doubled by installing a diesel generator. The drailer can carry a payload of up to 700 kg and supports various types of armament and equipment, from remote-controlled weapon stations to electronic warfare and anti-drone systems. Arquus plans to further develop this platform with the goal of achieving full autonomy within the next 5-6 years, making it a key element of future military operations.
