We are at the end of the first day of Eurosatory 2024, Europe's largest biennial arms fair in Paris. The fair attracted thousands of experts from more than 62 countries and opened its doors at 9:00 am, offering a wide range of presentations, conferences and lectures.
Opening ceremony
The first day of Eurosatory 2024 was opened by French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu, who cut the ribbon and described this year's event as "an important show at important times". In his speech, he stressed the importance of Eurosatory as a key platform for showcasing the latest defence and security technologies, which are essential in the current geopolitical context characterised by a series of crises and conflicts. Thus, the fair not only showcases cutting-edge technologies, but also provides a space for discussion and exchange of experiences among experts from all over the world.
Major exhibitors and national pavilions
The fair hosts more than 2,000 arms companies in three halls, including renowned companies such as Rheinmetall, KNDS, General Dynamics, MBDA, Safran, Thales, and surprises from China (Norinco), Taiwan and Korea. The Czech Republic is represented by several major companies such as CSG and their subsidiaries Tatra, Tatra Defence and Excalibur Army. The Czech pavilion is also surrounded by STV, Colt CZ. The Czech pavilion, which also includes the Security magazine stand, officially opened at 13:00.
Main events of the day
Among the main events were the presentation of several new products of the arms world:
Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 by KNDS
One of the most important novelties of the first day of Eurosatory 2024 was the presentation of the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 tank from KNDS. This tank represents a technological leap thanks to its revolutionary design with a tankless turret that is remotely controlled. The main weapon of the tank is the modular automatic linear loader, which allows the use of calibers from 120 to 140 mm. The innovative weapon mount ensures efficient use of space in the chassis, where the crew is housed in a highly protected capsule. In addition, the Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0 is equipped with active protection systems, including an anti-drone system. Its flexibility allows current versions of the Leopard 2 to be upgraded to the A-RC 3.0 standard, which is key to increasing combat effectiveness and crew protection.



Patroller drone from Safran
Safran has introduced the new Patroller drone, which brings advanced target recognition and tracking capabilities. The drone is equipped with cutting-edge sensors and intelligence systems that enable effective deployment in a variety of military operations. The Patroller is designed to provide high autonomy and reliability, which is critical for modern military missions focused on reconnaissance and surveillance. The drone is part of the Eurodrone programme, a joint European project to develop MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) UAVs. Safran plans to begin production of the first prototype in 2024, with first deliveries scheduled for the end of the decade. This drone brings new capabilities in reconnaissance and intelligence operations and increases the efficiency of military missions.

Zetros 8x8 from Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks
Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new Zetros 8x8, which offers an increased payload of up to 25 tonnes and more cargo space. This model is designed for heavy military use and includes an option with an armoured cab for crew protection. The Zetros 8x8 is equipped with an OM 460 in-line six-cylinder engine with up to 510 hp and a maximum torque of 2,300 Nm, making it a highly mobile and robust logistics vehicle. In addition, it is equipped with an Allison 4500 SP automatic transmission, which ensures high driving dynamics.
Bren 3 machine gun from Czech Armoury
CZ Colt presented its new model of the Bren 3 machine gun at Eurosatory 2024. This machine gun is an upgraded version of previous models, offering improved ergonomics, higher accuracy and reliability. The Bren 3 is designed for easy maintenance and handling, making it a key element of the Czech armed forces' armament. Among its main features is its modular design, which allows the weapon to be quickly reconfigured for different combat situations.
Live demonstration of multi-purpose vehicles
Towards the end of the day, a live demonstration of multi-purpose vehicles was held to showcase off-road driving capabilities. Among the biggest movers and shakers were Arquus, Rheinmetal, KNDS and Singapore Technologies. Arquus showcased the APC Carrier and Fortress Mark 2. The vehicle, which features the latest protection technologies and offers high mobility and the ability to transport a combat unit of up to 11 soldiers over a variety of terrain. Singapore Technologies introduced the Bronco, which is known for its exceptional mobility and versatility in a variety of combat and logistics roles. These demonstrations allow visitors to see the technology in action and get a better idea of its capabilities.
